The loudest thing we make, and the fastest to change. The first fifteen minutes are almost aggressively bright — pineapple, blackcurrant, a squeeze of bergamot. Then the birch arrives and the fragrance turns, hard: dry, ashy, a little tarry, with the fruit still visible underneath rather than gone. Why We Made This
There is a reason this genre has been copied more than any other in men's fragrance, and a reason almost every copy is disappointing. The idea is a collision — bright, almost gaudy fruit crashing into dry woodsmoke — and it only works if both halves are real. Smoke materials are difficult and expensive, and they test badly on a paper strip, so the cheap route is to keep the pineapple and replace the birch with something sweet and safe. What you get then is fruit juice. We kept the smoke, kept the moss underneath it, built it at twenty percent, and put it in ten millilitres — because this is a fragrance you should smell on your own skin before you own a hundred millilitres of it.

It isn't a clone of any one house's bottle, and we don't name anyone else's product to sell ours. This is a well-established style with dozens of interpretations; this is ours.
I've heard this genre lasts 10–12 hours. Why do you say 6–8?
Because six to eight is what we've measured on skin, and we'd rather under-promise than have you disappointed at hour nine. This category does have a reputation for enormous performance, and some of that is real — smoke and moss are heavy, slow materials. But longevity claims in fragrance are notoriously generous, and skin chemistry varies enormously: dry skin holds fragrance far less well than hydrated skin. On fabric you will get considerably longer than eight hours. On skin, expect six to eight and be pleasantly surprised.
How strong is "strong projection"? Will I annoy people?
You can, and this is the genre where it happens. Smoke and fruit both carry, and at 20% the compound is dense. Two sprays on pulse points is right for an evening out. Three is a lot. Six — which people do apply, because the scent fades on their own nose within an hour while everyone else still smells it clearly — is how someone ends up being the person everyone mentions afterwards. This is not a fragrance to wear to a small meeting room.
What does 20% concentration actually mean?
It's the proportion of fragrance oil to alcohol. As a rough industry guide: eau de toilette runs about 5–15%, eau de parfum about 15–20%, extrait de parfum 20% and above. At 20%, Legacy Noir sits right where eau de parfum ends and extrait begins — which is why two sprays is enough, and why the smoky base is still readable hours in.
Will it smell like a bonfire?
No. Birch in perfumery is a dry, slightly tarry, leathery smoke rather than a campfire — closer to the smell of a struck match or well-worn leather than to burning wood. It sits under the fruit rather than on top of it, and it arrives gradually over the first half hour rather than hitting you at the open. If you actively dislike smoky fragrances it will still read as smoky, and this isn't the one for you.

A chypre is not a note but a shape: bright citrus on top, something floral or fruity in the middle, and an earthy, mossy, resinous base underneath — the contrast between the sparkling top and the dark floor is the entire idea. The structure dates to the early twentieth century and has underpinned an enormous proportion of serious perfumery ever since. What makes the modern fruity chypre distinctive is swapping in loud tropical fruit up top and adding smoke to the base, which turns a classical structure into something aggressive and contemporary. The moss is the part people forget. Without an earthy floor, a fruity chypre is just fruit and musk — impressive at first spray and forgettable an hour later. That earthiness is also why these fragrances read as adult rather than as fruit juice.
